Part 6 - 2:18? Yes 2:18

Sooooo it's 2:18 on Monday morning which means I should be sleeping and my report is due in 14 hours and 42 minutes!! I've just been working on my intro and it's not too shabby. As we all know, I did the methods, yay, then I focussed on the results that are way too hard so later in the night i decided to write my discussion that sounded more like an intro so here I am writing the intro.

Only now is my brain feeling tired so I'm pretty impressed. I'm going to go make a coffee then finish my intro and start tackling the results again until I go to bed at about......3-3:30. I also know that I must finish this report by 3pm tomorrow so that I can shower and get ready for work, go hand my report in then get to work by 4:45pm..good times.

It is now 2:22.

Part 4 - Why is Word Stupid?

Does this make sense......

How can I spell a word right the first two times but wrong the third time when it's spelt the same? And if I type "cannula" anywhere BEFORE the 'spelling mistake' it's fine but if I type it AFTER then it's another 'spelling mistake'.

I've also always wanted to use the confused lemon, now I can : )

[EDIT: Apparently, even though I haven't changed any options in word at all and started with a plain blank boring page, the top half of my report is spell checked by 'Australian' English and the bottom half by 'American' English.]

- finish methods
- make results graphs
- do results
- lunch
- write discussion
- write discussion
- write discussion
- write discussion
- write intro
- write abstract
- reference

However it wll probably be...
- breakfast
- finish methods
- look at results
- play games
- lunch
- look at results
- make graphs
- play games
- post on lj
- write results
- write discussion
- sit on the couch
- decide it's almost dinner time so continue to sit on the couch
- reslise "half an hour" meant "2 hours" but dinner should be anytime soon
- post on lj

Brainssssss

On Thursday we operated on a rat, not our rat, but a practice rat and it was cool!! The aim of the experiment was to infuse dye into the rat's brain, then the brain would be dissected, to see if we were in or close to the spot we need to be at for the real operation.

Now for some less gory but still rat brain related details. It's funny how different people do things differently. In the lab we have a group of four. There's a girl wanting to get into med and all she worried about was "slicing" (she got to do the incision) and then finishing the lab as quickly as possible. THIS DROVE ME INSANE. We're working with a complex organ that's about 25mm long, 15mm wide and 15mm deep, if that. It's incredibly complex and relatively we're putting huge instruments into it. We have two landmarks that we need the coordinates for and have to be at the same height, to save time she just wanted to measure the height of the back (highest) one and make the front one the same height, not figure out the coordinates for both incase we needed to go back to them to double check. She also didn't really care about double checking the coordinates and positions and anything really. THIS PISSED ME OFF SO MUCH, which also shows how much I love Neuro. To me it's an art, we're dealing with a tiny complex organ that you need to take time and care with and to guess it is ridiculous. I'd rather sit there tweaking the positions and doing it as slowly and as involved as I like and doing it right. Even now I'm getting a bit irritated thinking about it and then feeling...awed? at working on a brain.

I don't love Neuroscience much......
